Bandsintown Nominated for SoundCtrl’s FlashFWD 2012 Artist Support Award
April 30, 2012 – Bandsintown, the top free concert tracking application on Facebook, iPhone and Android, was selected as a nominee for the FlashFWD 2012 Artist Support Award, presented by SoundCtrl, New York City’s premier event platform for the convergence of music and digital media. The award recognizes companies that have improved artist freedom by developing products that give them more options in creating and promoting their music independently. The winner will be announced during Internet Week New York at SoundCtrl’s third annual FlashFWD Awards Ceremony and Concert, which will be held at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City on Tuesday, May 15, at 8:30 p.m.
Bandsintown is competing with three other nominees: BandPage, a music technology company focused on creating Facebook artist pages; CASH Music, a nonprofit organization that builds open source tools for musicians and labels; and Kickstarter, an online funding platform for creative projects. Polls are open now until May 4, and fans can vote for the winner by visiting http://bit.ly/JnF5fW
Bandsintown scans a user’s Facebook Likes, last.fm, Pandora and iPhone or Android music library to automatically populate their Tracked Artists page. Users can then see when their favorite bands are coming to town in a variety of ways, including the Concert Cloud, which graphically emphasizes shows they might be more interested in, and the Tonight tab, which lets iPhone and Android users browse recommended shows by date. Once they find a concert to attend, users can RSVP directly from the app, purchase tickets, and share the event with their friends.
Bandsintown is the leading Facebook application for live music fans and artists. For fans, Bandsintown provides a personalized way for music fans to track their favorite artists so they never miss a live concert and to discover new touring artists, based on their musical preferences and location. For artists, Bandsintown provides a best-in-class platform that allows artists to promote their live concerts and to sell tickets, leveraging Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and more. Acquired by Cellfish in September 2011, Bandsintown is based in San Diego.
